I have been teaching two of my granddaughters for three years now, and this year we added a couple more kids to the mix….I’m having a good time with that.
BUT, I have long wanted to do something with my 5 grandsons who live in the NRV. This year they are 6, 7, and 8, and it seemed like a good time to do something. Many of you already know that this summer has been topsy-turvy for me, so I was coming at this very late indeed. I was pretty sure that I wanted to do something with science — boys and science are very compatible. I love Apologia, so I looked at some of their earlier books, and was drawn toward the one on Astronomy. BUT, I thought of all the work that would be to make it interesting for the little boys, and my heart failed me!!!
Right at that time, I had to make a dash to Roanoke and so I dropped by to see Joanna. In God’s providence, her six year old twins were sitting there working on the “Junior” Astronomy Notebooking Journals, put out by Apologia to go with the book. It was love at first sight for me. I ordered them immediately.
Two weeks ago was the first lesson for the five little boys. I was nervous, but they LOVED it, and can hardly wait for the next lesson. I was going to do them every two weeks, because there are 14 lessons in the book, but I think I am going to have to step that up to every week possible. Not only are they anxious to keep going, but there are so many good things to do in the books, and for experiments. This will be fun!
One of these days I will get a picture of those little guys and post it here. Meanwhile, I recommend to you the excitement of science for little boys!! 😉
